Monday Mural: more of the Alice Street mural

Here's one more corner of the Alice Street mural by the Community Rejuvenation Project which was featured in October.  The mural is located on the edge of Chinatown and this section celebrates facets of local culture including the election of Jean Quan, Oakland's first Asian-American mayor.

Monday Mural: paste-ups in East Oakland

These dramatic murals are on two sides of the building at the corner of E. 12th Street and 11th Avenue in East Oakland.  They are paste ups but have been put up with some kind of super glue to help them last longer than usual.  They look like blown up photo murals, but I really couldn't tell.  And I didn't see any signatures.  I'm sure someone will tell us who did them.  It's a pleasure to drive up the street and see them with their purple-ish red background.

Monday Mural: dragon and panda

This fierce dragon and his furry buddy in the background adorn a wall in Chinatown. Sorry, but I have no idea who the artist is.

Theme Day: Landmark

The Tribune Tower is one our most iconic buildings.  Even though the Tribune no longer resides in their 1923 tower, downtown Oakland still seems to revolve around it.  On this day it was flying the Pride flag for the local Gay Pride parade.  Sometimes it flies a flag that says There.  Today is the first of the month and the City Daily Photo theme is Landmark.  Click here to see contributions from around a world.
