Monday Mural: girl with parasol

This charming mural is in West Oakland off of Mandela Parkway.  It was done by Bode who brought you the wonderful mermaid featured a long while ago.  It is on a rather long fence, the other half of which will be featured next week.

If you like murals or have a mural you'd like to post, this meme's for you.  You decide what constitutes a mural.  Once you start looking, you find them all around.  Follow the Linky steps below.  Be sure to link back to this meme and visit your fellow posters.  Looking forward to the mural finds posted this week.

  1. Great mural ... I like how the colors complement each other, but also the way the flowing scarf mimics the girl's hair and draws the eye towards the Chinese characters.

  2. You are right... it is a very charming mural. The colours are great and I also like how the artist has created a windy day scene.

  3. There seems a certain similar style to the many murals in Oakland...

  4. I like the mural but are not overly fond in the use of purple in an urban environment. Its a kind of unnatural color in the most situations that clashes with the rest.

  5. Definitely Japanese. Of course, I'm wondering what the characters mean.

  6. An elegant lady int his mural, rather matches the lilac house in the post previous to this. :-)

  8. I like it. A bit unusual to see a scene like this in what appears to be a residential area.

  11. She looks like she's Japanese, which I could relate because the green characters seems like in Japanese.

P.S. There is no LINKY, here's my link post.

  12. A couple of years ago, I had the pleasure of talking to a couple of young muralists as they were working on a project. I thought it was pretty cool how they were high school art students who had won a commission to do the mural. What a fantastic boost to their training and careers!
